DEADLY ROMANCE1

May who now lived in a duplex with her son in Bodija,a suburb in the city of Ibadan had lost her pilot husband few days after the birth of their son,Jude in a plan crash.
Though very much in her youthful age of 26yrs,she refused to re-marry.She believed she can never find a true honest lover like Stev in any other man.He had been created for her,and he had loved her till death.
And all she wanted in a man had went up in that flame of April 2004.

As a senior staff in a new generation bank,she floats in good salary income,and Jude was in one of the best private schools in the country.
Financially,she had got nothing to worry about as her husband left her quite a reasonable amout in private investments and raw cash.And she vowed to make good use of it,and that their son had the best in life.

When Jude hit 10yrs old,May threw a memorable birthday anniversary for him which attracted people from all works of life.
The party went through the night to the break of the next day.
And as the last group of people left,May who had been all round to see that the house full guest had a good feel,collapsed into a sofa totally exhausted,and slept off.

Before she came awake three hours later,Gloria and Rita,her friends who had been helpping her serve and run around had almost finished putting the whole house and environment back in order.May was amazed.
"Oh God",she drowned.
"Sleeping cat...",Gloria mused as she and Rita were trying to push the chase-table back to the wall.
May who was looking at them sleepishly said,"I wouldn't want to say what would've been of me without you ladies,honestly".

"A prince charming would've done better babe girl",Rita said.
"Oh shit!You know that's not in any of my list right now...even could be for life until i go meet Stev,and together he and i'll be forever.And nothing 'll seperate us again",May said,fully awake.
"And to let you know,the prince charming occupying my heart now is upstairs sleeping,and i don't want to share him with any other.

"But that prince charming upstairs can't make you feel like a woman in the natural way instituted by God...I mean you're just too young to deprive yourslf the mystery food of the soul",Tina said.
"We'ave nuns",May pointed out.
"But you're not one,you've tasted the fruit and found it was good and sweet to eat",Gloria cut in.
"Yea girl friend!It's a palatible food hardly shared with anyone else",Rita said.
"Thanks all",May said and got to her feet."I think i'm hungry".
"You're what?"Rita asked.

"I said i'm hungry",May repeated as she moved towards the kitchen door.Then her eyes caught the figure standing at the landing of the staircase.
"Dearling you're awake".She started up the stairs towards the sleepy looking boy in a colourful neat pyjamas.

Three months later,May was driving home from work and her car without prior notice got static,and refused to start.
She tried all she could to get help,but nobody seemed ready to help her.
She found herself stranded and helpless on a lonely road.Darknes was fast falling,and in few minutes,her plight would be even worst.Because,then it would be her alone on the road standing or walking like a lost sheep,and a sitting duck for soul hunters.
But she still had two dangerous options to take;either to sleep in the car till the next day or to treck the fifteen killometres stretch to town where she could get a cab home.

However,the gory sight of the mutilated corpse of a man she saw laying by the road side last week,and the fresh dead body of a lady she saw just that morning on her way to work on this same road made her heart beat faster.
She began to sorb.But then a car,unnoticed or seen coming,pulled up beside her.She jumpped and about running off when the unknown occupant tentatively yelled at her to stop...

The stranger was a tall handsome looking man.He came out of the car.
"I'm sorry i scared you",he said in appology.
"It's alright...i...i'm just a bit out of my wit",May said.
The stranger walked to her car.
"What's the problem with the car?"
"Honestly i can't really say...it...it...just stopped"May said in a weeping tone.
He opened the car hood,and after a swift look at the engine he closed it back.
"I think we're going to help her to the mechanics."He said.

"Please just get me out of here!"May roared.
The man looked at her in amazement,and smiled wryly to himself.
"Ok ma'am,hop into my car while i rope her up to my rear"
After a moment May's car was tied to the stranger's and they headed into town.

Inside the car,May said,"If you don't mind may i know you?"
"No problem,my name's Chubby and i used to live around this town,but right now i'm up north."
"And what do you do for a living?"She asked further.
"I'm into a kind of business"
"What kind of business is that?"
"Clearing and fowarding"
"I see...that's nice".
They're now approaching the main town as the stranger,who gave his name as Chubby drove into a link road,and the town's night aroma enveloped them.

It was 8.30pm before they finally made it to town.Chubby drove into a deserted mechanic workshop and there he untired May's car.
"So we let the babe off here,tomorrow you come meet the guys and they'll fix her up for you".
"Thanks so much,i really appreciate your kindness and..."May paused.
"Never mind it's my pleasure and what's your and?"
"Well i kind of wanted to tell you my name...You never even bothered to ask."May said.
Chubby laughed.
"I would've."He said.
"And your name ma?"
"I'm May"
"Nice one"
So Mr.Chubby are you going right through or you're putting up somewhere for the night?"
"In a hotel for the night",he said."So now hop in and let me drive you home before the Brother hit the police stations to report for a missing lady."Chubby teased.
